I LOVE MONDAYS............SEASONS OF CHANGE

I just love Mondays because God brings such a "renewal" on Sundays.....Such a good message
and encouragment yesterday to remind me who is in control ; and who brings peace and joy
to my life! God! And I see His goodness early this morning in the bright orange sunrise coming
up over the trees. I see the children all lined up beside the bus stop awaiting the big Yellow Schoobus to come around the bend and take them to school...........
I am excited that the precursor to Fall is in the air.........the weather may still be warm here
but you can see and feel it in the air.........the ducks have now flown back to the pond and I see
as they all form a V and splash down into the cool waters and so gently float across the water as
if they were gliding to a symphony...........
I have been in the process of ridding and cleaning out items not used or gently used to send to
the resale shop in town.....I have put away some things and soon the colors of Fall will warm my
rooms............
Sweeping throughout; windows; corners; and Freshing up.........** I bought some nice plug ins
on "a great sale" a few weeks ago and they bring a sweet smell to a once stale area......
In the Fall; I love to bake...........There is something warm and cozy about it! My friend from
Ramblings from Reno has a great bread recipe she shared ......I enjoy baking up various kinds
such as banana breads; lemon tea breads; and pumpkin breads...........Some I freeze for the cold
winter months and others I give away...............
My children are now wonderful adults.........Long gone are the days of kindergarten but I love
the beginning of a new school year..........I have my books I am reading each month.......My friend from Journal for Women has a great array of books she had read.and has posted some of these in her Ladies Library. ( along sidebar)...I have read many of these and am challenged to learn and read as much as I can this year............
This will also be a sweet time to sit with my granddaughter and read her books and go to our
local library..............They are so full of great things!
I also enjoy during this season; thinking of gift ideas; holiday ideas........Pumpkin or Apple Butter in a small jar; Jams; or any other idea just looks nice in a jar........I will share recipes later
this season...........

Have a wonderful change of season............God has given me these days to fill and enjoy.........
Clean out a room and paint it a beautiful new cottage gray; go through your closet and rid out of
torn; too small ; or faded clothes. A few good things are better and ready to go..............
Begin to purchase things like cinnamon; flour; sugar; lemons; pumpkin in a can; small jars.........
these are all on sale now and you can fill your pantry with for Fall.
If you are sluggish and tired start a "walking ". It can even be for 10 minutes. Just walk look up
thank God and enjoy the beauty that is surrounding you............
This is a "season of change" ..........get ready and enjoy!

EASY VEGETABLE LASAGNA................

This seems to be the "recipe week" for my blog...but this week I made homemade veggie lasagna and it turned out delicious! My husband is not a big lasagna fan so for that reason I
did not make it . Yet , he was asking for more meatless dishes and so I found this one. He thought it sounded nice and he loved it...........
Its a easy dish once you try it and a very pretty dish.........I of course, add my own things to it ( I always add what I have on hand and try to make it healthy as possible)........Here is the recipe:

** only changes : I used Smart Balance instead of butter; I used shredded Italian cheese 1 cup
inside the ricotta mixture and the other cup on top.; I used turkey bacon instead of prosciutto
but would probably leave that out next time.

THE RECIPE IS AS FOLLOWS..................

THE STAYVACATION ( A FUN ADVENTURE FOR YOU AND YOUR HUBBY)

A friend told me about a "Stayvacation" her and her husband had planned ........(she is a very wise lady)........They planned
a little get a way at home..........What a sweet and fun idea they had..........

I know sometimes it fun to get away from home but if your watching your time and finances
this may be just the thing..........

Here are some ideas:

. Go for a walk at a nearby park or near home.....The trees will be turning pretty in a couple
of weeks here and we both love the colors they bring......

. Go get pizza together.

. Go to your favorite diner for lunch....

. Sleep in (if you can) or take a restful nap...........

. Talk over plans for things you both may want for the future....

. Go browse some small stores for favorite old things

.Do something he enjoys such as golf; fishing; bowling

. Be relaxed and spend some quit times......maybe while he is enjoying a favorite History show you can do some canning or sewing or project youve wanted to do

Be creative...........this may be one of the best stayvacations youve ever had.........

Sometimes the best B & B you can find is right where you are.......Cherish the moments...

END OF SUMMER GOODNESS..............LOOKING AHEAD TO "NEW BEGINNINGS AND A FRESH NEW SEASON"

The other day my husband asked me what the date was.........I went to the calendar in the kitchen and was taken away at what I thought it was! I had missed a week.......How did I do that
I thought? I usually keep myself informed about dates and times...but as I thought back I recalled quit a "busy summer"..........
It seems we really do not know what a season; a month; or a year will bring but I have to say
I am thankful for a very special season this past year.........Its not always been easy but many
sweet blessings have come my way.........As I open the door to my home.........my heart has also
been opened to new things; new thoughts; new joys........
My flowers that were once vibrant are now fading...they have given me such beauty this summer as I sat upon our porch in my rocker..........
Our rockers have been used this summer to sit and have coffee with my husband; to sit and
rock with our granddaughter; to have friends stop by and enjoy a visit or two...........or to
sit and watch the birds as they have filled the feeders by husband bought for me earlier this
season.......
I have begun to "simplify" things around the house that we used this summer... I have cleared
some extra pillows in rooms to storage. Put away some items that sat upon tables...Cleared out
until the next season begins.............

Our dining room table had its days of use.........with full summer suppers; filled with burgers;
fresh green beans; grilled chicken; salads of all sorts; and cool refreshing deserts........and chairs
brought in all around to fill in for extra guest......I would keep my table set with pretty green
dishes and a full centerpiece of white flowers but I am now clearing the table to bring a blank
slate .............for the next season.........it sits peaceful
I have begun the seasonal change of ridding out things in my closets and drawers; I have enjoyed using the wooden hangers I found this summer at a yard sale to keep my husbands
pants and my skirts hung so nicely in the closet..........I have a few "pretty hangers" to hang
delicate blouses and things...
This summer I was pleased when the call came from my sister that mom was going into the hospital for a procedure that my husband encouraged me to go........Three to four weeks later
mom went to heaven ......A hard time but a precious time with her...sweet good memories we had
together.........and a sweet time with my brother and sisters that I will never forget........
I am blessed indeed! .........so many complain about how hard it is to get along with their parents
I was blessed to have precious parents that loved me and I loved them. Were they perfect? I know I am not but they loved me and others...........I am blessed to have had wonderful parents and great inlaws...........
This summer bought times of cooking and baking with my granddaughter.........I have to say
I am one of those who loves spending time in my kitchen to create.....as I grow older I have simplified but memories of the aromas that have filled the kitchen are like a hug from home....
The newest one arrived not to long after my mom went to heaven......She has bought joy to
my husband and I and the whole family...........When my dear husband works so hard and
the challenges of life as well as his time in the hospital recently .......These precious grandchildren
fill his heart........(mine too)
I have enjoyed my coffee mornings with my hubby......Early we would rise and sit out on the
porch as the sun began to shine over the rooftops.............God is so good to me I can hardly stand it sometimes!

A batch of banana muffins somehow makes everyone feel warm and cozy some days.......
The Farmers Market in our town became a regular routine this year.....Fresh green beans; onions; herbs; corn on the cob; pretzel bread and a large oatmeal cookie for the granddaughter..
The garden was filled with tomatoes as we dug and worked the garden early in the summer...
It was a project my husband and I wanted to do together...It has provided many blessings for
us and to give to others....but it did not get all the attention needed as other things filled some
of our days...yet we have enjoyed its bounty..........
Many trips with my son in law and granddaughter to to garden; then the grill; then to the table.
Ballgames filled many weeks this year and I loved being able to sit and be there for my husband.....* ( I had some say to me ...."Why do you sit there each week cant he go himself?")
........I knew they didnt understand but my husband did and loved that I was there. Me too!
Pots of fresh beans ; strawberry jam; and other summer goodies filled the kitchen; and
dont forget the "French Silk Ice Cream" with lite whipped cream each night!!!
Memories of baking; reading a book; running through the sprinkler; playing in her kiddie
pool; going to the garden; taking walks to the park with grandpa..........
New baby sister .........I love you..............
And............so one season ends and another begins........I am SO excited! ........I will share more
on that later.............I am thankful to God for His blessings and for things to come........
What have you enjoyed this season?

THE PERFECT DAY ..........THAT COULD HAVE TURNED SOUR....

Have you ever had a day that started out just wrong??...........A day where the doorbell rings early just when you and your hubby decided to rest in for abit that day and its hello how are you with your hair about standing on your head? .........Then your coffeepot decides to play tricks on you and drain little black grounds all over your cup...........and your lack of sleep doesnt help either...........and your dear husband says to you " I dont have to work today after all" would you like to go to "Farmers Market"?........

I just sat in a lump in my chair. I had read my Bible or so I thought. I had thanked God for this day or so I thought. I had even taken my vitamins or maybe I hadnt. All I knew was I was tired in mind and spirit......... I saw the gleam in my husbands face. I knew even if I didnt feel like being fun that this poor man after surgery and the week of hospitals and such needed a wife that was ready to go have fun..

.....As we got into the van my hubby said to me........"Honey you dont seem like yourself"......... "What I said?" in my fog................" You just seem like your not happy today".....
" I wanted to say Happy? Happy? I am always Happy" but I knew in my heart that I was in a fog...........a quiet little voice said " tell him your heart" .........when a man loves you he loves all of you".....

....." I said " I am very thankful..........I love you and the family" but I am overtired
and in a fog"............" He reached out for my hand and told me he loved me too and it seemed better"..............* ( I told God too and He knew my heart)

We arrived at the Farmers Market.........I just let go. Let go of my wants. Let go of my not so perfect morning. Let go of what I was feeling and just went along..........Hand in hand we walked to the market. It was a foggy cool day and not alot of people. We bagged green beans; onions; and some potatoes.....on down we walked and picked up some pretzel bread and rosemary bread...we then walked...not saying much just walked

We then began walking back to the car past a couple of antique shops. He said " Want to stop in there"....."Ok" I said feeling better. " We wandered in the shop........and began laughing over things we saw and interesting things....We exited ..........and he said " Want to get a bite of lunch at the diner?".........."Yes again" .............We ate and talked................TIME..........time together that we had missed.

Our time had been filled with others; the hospital; work; other
things that were needful......... After our lunch we walked to a shoe store in town where he bought me some new shoes. We left there and he stopped............He stopped at a small little park like area next to the diner ( I wish I had pictures) for it was filled with hanging baskets and the walls painted a red barn red and Paris blue windows and little black iron seats....We just sat there .....talked and did nothing..............* He knew I would like it and I loved him more for it.........

Later that day we came home and did a few things and rested. Then he decided to take our "sweetest girl granddaughter " for a walk to the park. " Do you want to go"? ........."again I said Yes" and off we went strolling by the pond where God gave me a Large Blue Heron to tell me that He loves me...........*it was a few feet from me................on to the park where I saw this man I love in pain swinging his granddaughter and catching her on the slide and sliding down himself! ( he paid for that one).......

.....That evening I was cleaning up a simple supper and thanked God
that this could have been a soured day if I would have paid attention to my feelings and that fog.......but giving it to God and going on with my sweet hubby made it the "Perfect Day"....

THIS AND THAT..........LITTLE TREASURES FOR THE HOME.....

After a big two weeks of extra busyness I took yesterday to run some errands and take some
time out for myself....I meant a friend for a quick little breakfast (she bought and it was a blessing)....and then off to my nearby thirft store.........I was in the need of a black frame and found one right away that was not priced so they said $1. I said that is just my price....I then
gazes at a few books but didnt want to pay the $1 or $2 a piece and they annouced over the speaker that books would be selling for 5/$1. So I found some that I could use and learn from
I enjoy books that teach me something or that I may use in making cards and such for others...

This picture did not turn out as well as expected but I have driven by a yard sell in this quaint
little area...I found a ratten side table in perfect condition with a shelf on the bottom....I came home and thought I might paint it but then as I looked in my daughters room ( that is who I was
giving it to) I saw that the natural ratten looked lovely with her bed....This was a great blessing
for only $2 and she can use it now to store her books and a nice light as well.......

At the same yard sale I saw this lonely little white desk . It was old ( I like old things) and was
sitting in the corner.....I thought it would make a nice desk for me to use to keep my cards;
files and other things I care for together in one place.....This is project in the working. I think I
may paint it a robin egg blue wash.........
I love the old fashion knobs as well...........a time gone by when things were simple.....
I found this at a sale at Hobby Lobby for .50 cents. They have a section that is 90% off in which
you can find things for the holiday or other uses for a few dollars..... I enjoyed the black and white and the saying....I bought several of things and have already given several away as gifts...
Back to the thrift shop........sorry I am going around here.............but part of the books included
magazines...I enjoy some of the decorating ones as well as recipes for the upcoming season...When I am done I just donate them back to the little shop on the corner............
I flip through these when I have "rest times" and if I find a recipe I want to keep I tear it
out and put it in a file.............
Another book on Front Porches..........I love porches because they repesent to me a time of
togetherness with family or friends. ...........a time to slow down and just be still..........
A page from the book.........Is there anything more relaxing ?...........can you feel the cool breezes?
I thought this little book looked interesting.........Sometimes I will pick a book by the colors it
explores as well.........This has some great ideas on gifts to make..........but if not it makes a nice
book to enjoy the colors and set out with others to lighten up a room..........
Here is a page from this book showing some of the simple ways to can put these treasures together.................** I forgot to include in my photos a book I found from 1932 ( remember I like old books) it was a treasure indeed as it contained a air mail letter envelope from Germany
many years ago......it was made during the war....I cant wait to sit down and explore its history...

Thank you for visiting my treasures today...........

WALKING THROUGH MY DAYS. AT THE HOSPTIAL........LESSONS LEARNED

The last few weeks have been eventful for sure........A trip to the ER and many hours later
with several tests finding a large kidney stone.....Back home....hubby so sick and in pain going back and forth to work...Back into the ER Saturday morning with fever and pain. He was admitted and then found out that stone along with some others were not moving...Scheduled
surgery on Monday afternoon.....A "stint" was put in place and swollen kidneys and infection
prevented the removal of this large stone........Home again and waiting about 2 weeks to go in again and remove all...........He's back to work; feeling somewhat better but in pain and just
adjusting to life as to what it brings........

I wrote another blog this morning: It was full of thankfulness and each day and things we went through . I didnt have time to finish that blog and a quiet thought came to me to write something different.....Lessons I have been learning........for you see God never gives us a trial without a
lesson to be learned and gleaned from it..........

There are many people i have been praying for that are going through "different circumstances" such as a newborn baby born with a hole in his heart and now finding out he
has no white blood cells in his little body; a friend whos son is having sugery and his pain meds
dont seem to be working; someone whos mother has had back to back surgeries that last couple of days; and even those going through lifes struggles....WE are all the same .......just going through day to day and then STOP.........an interruption within our days that may even knock us down.........

LESSONS:

. Be thankful each step of the way........Praise and thank Him for each step of your journey and know He knows what you need.

. When going through your trial your physical body and mental body may become exhausted
and overwhelmed...I was........and others may say to you "Poor thing" take it easy.......(we all need that love and care) except.............IT MAY SOON TURN INSIDE YOURSELF" ......and
you begin to think in your heart" Oh yes I am so tired. I am tired of sleeping in this recliner
that pulls together at night and makes me so tired that I cant think"......."What the air conditioner has gone out in all the hospital?" What kind of hospital would let the air go out when its 99 degrees?"...........or the Beeper is going off again on the machine by my husband over and over and louder and louder..........cant anyone hear that Where is the aide or nurse?".......
That nurse that came through was crazy and cant remember anything?"....."Oh I am sooo tired...
and cannot even think"?-------------It was so easy to get a complainy spirit..........

. Learn that whatever comes your way ; others can have it so much more...........I heard Code Blue three times when I was there and one was right around from our room. I heard the weeping and wailing of the family........" I prayed for them" and thanked God my husband was lying asleep in our room.........

. Learn to let others help you. Allow then to pray. Allow them to run errand you need. Allow them get you food if you need it. Allow yourself time to sleep when you need it or when you get
home. I slept for 2 hours when I got home....Allow yourself to get strong again.....Allow yourself to say no to some things in order to get back on track..........

. Learn to be greatful and thankful to others even when you dont feel like it. Our preacher has taught to do right even when you dont feel like it..........."I thanked each nurse; each aide; each
Dr and the lady that cleaned our room........The last day the manager of the floor came to us and
said I heard nice things about you and your room and wanted to know how you liked us...
" I was surprised" ( because I knew in my heart I hadnt always been kind)...but my husband
and I both told her our thankful and greatfulness.

. We had one nurse in praticular named Addie. She was from Nigeria and her accent was so
soothing and kind..........She was very caring and did a wonderful job. Her aide to her came in
later and I expressed how much we liked Addie and she said herself " Oh she is the best! She doest always expect an aide to run and clean up after her even though I would but says thats
ok and just does the whole job!...........I saw "Addie at 4 am in the morning tidying up the bathroom area for my husbands needs quietly and caring for his needs..........

. After my husband surgery he came to his room and began to shake violetly ....I went to get
Addie our nurse and she came.........helped him to bed; got warm blankets from the warmer
and covered him. She also turned on the heat in the room.........** I thought to myself "Oh my I am getting hot".....theres that self thing again......I mentioned it to her in jest but she quickly
spoke "Well we all know its not about me but all about him!"...........Ouch ! that was great that
she put me right in my place and I settled in drinking my ice water........Later that night
the cool air was able to come back on........."If we wait he will bring each of our needs"

Lessons learned to each one going though their days of life.............Mrs Marlene Evans ( a great lady and friend) used to say " I see the Gold Glittering" in people or situations.........
In each of lifes STOPS I pray I can pause and see the "gold glittering " throughout this time....
Sometimes it is hard and may take for years and years to come to find a lesson ..........but I know
if My Lord is my path and in charge He has His path I must take and He is there by my side
each step of the way............

INEXPENSIVE WAYS TO HAVE FUN WITH THE ONE YOU LOVE.......

My dear husband is still very much in pain and ill yet decided to go finish a job he had scheduled today to provide for me........That is love!.............While waiting for him I saw these pictures I had taken last week at our Farmers Market.........I thought .......how it never cost
much to have fun with the one you love.........I love our little town ..........although it can be
any little town...........I enjoy walking through the shops and just gazing at their ideas I can
take to my own home and use.........sometimes I may get an "old childrens book' or some old
hankies or something small.
Just walking hand in hand with the one you love and letting them know that you admire him
so very much..........*you know men like that. Everyone likes that!
Sharing a coffee; a cold drink; listening one to another...............forgetting what they dont do and concentrating on what is good...........
Enjoying what God has placed in your lives at this time.....our sweetest girl enjoying the ride and the newest one too............
Always fresh vegetables; fresh green beans which I fix for him each week says : I care
about you and your wants and needs..........

In a time in which there are loss of jobs and harder times ; there is even more reasons to
let the ones we love know we care and "everything is going to be alright"

Here is some ideas I have gleaned from others over the years:

. Make a picnic for you and your hubby or your family.....go to a park and enjoy outdoors

. Visit your local Farmers Market

. Make his favorite dinner; dress up * dont expect anything back just do it out of love

. Go out of coffee and a slice of pie at a diner

. Go bowling or another activity he enjoys and laugh

. Sit out on your front porch or balcony and sip coffee together and listen .....

. Put up bird feeders and enjoy the birds together

. Put out a garden together

. Save up your money for an overnight for you and him ...or make your room like a bed and breakfast retreat

. Whatever you do ; go expecting nothing in return....so many young brides ( i was one once)
live in a world where they expect him to bring them all their happiness. Let God bring you joy
and peace and happiness and then give it out to those you love.........it will return twice back...

MY WORLD HAS BECOME SMALLER ........AFTER THE TRIP TO THE ER

Tuesday during the day my hubby called me to say he was feeling like he had gotten
the flu and was not feeling well. But.....he was heading almost 2 hours away to a meeting.
By Tuesday evening he couldnt drive home and my son in law and a friend drove up to get the
car and him........

After a little rest ; he felt good enough to go again on Wednesday to work about an hour a way.
Wednesday late afternoon he called me again ; this time to say he was in alot of pain and he was
driving home and straight to the Emergency Room (this is after he talked with our Dr)......
It was at least an hour and half drive so I was praying for him and asking God to help him make it..........

By 7 pm he entered the hospital. We didnt know it but they had deverted all the abulances to this hospital that night...........so we waited and waited. My husband is a diabetic and had not eaten for almost 2 days. He was so weak and in pain but held it in as much as he could. Finally
I asked if they could take his blood sugar after I had fed him a few M and M's........
They did and took him back right away..........He is also a heart patient and I didnt know what
was going on.............My world became smaller and around him............

By 11:30 they had him on IV's etc and one Dr said we were going to be admitted. By 2 am they
had a Cat Scan done and found a large kidney stone stuck up high. So Plan B was to send us
home with medicines and see if it would pass. We left at 4 am.......I was exhausted but my world
became his world . He has been in extreme pain since then. We have found out he has more
stones in other kidney as well. But........because he cannot have his normal meds or food he has
become unsteady..............

This is a man who doesnt quit. ......He is the hardest working man I know.........God is good and
has this time for us. He quiets us and brings us to Him. He loves us and is caring for us.....but
what is He reminding me? That my world becomes His world.............

When we were married over thirty years ago I made a vow to love....through thick and thin
through good times and bad..............

My world says:

. I will love you with all my heart...........

. I will be by your side

. I will comfort you

. I will pray for you

. I will honor and respect you

. I will do you good all the days of my life

. I will try and make your world a little sweeter

I am thankful God thought enough of me to give me my husband........to love and care for him.
He knew I could love him more than anyone else.............
So.........at this time my world has become about him..........

BANANA CRUMB MORNING MUFFINS.....AND A "KITCHEN TIP"

Last Saturday evening I looked upon the top of the refrigerator and saw a few bananas that
were going bad.....I hated to waste them so decided early Saturday morning to make these
delicious Banana Crumb Muffins.........
Fist I mixed the ingredients together ..........most things I have on hand..
Then.........using baking cups makes the clean up easy and neat................
I added the delicious topping......( I think this is what makes these special)
They came out wonderful..........By today my muffins were gone..........that makes it worth it!
I usually purchase round little placemats in colors of the season for my kitchen table (Kohls has them on sale each month....I am
constantly wiping these mats after each meal
TIP: One day I thought I would try and stick them into a small sink of sudsy cool water....I then quickly rinsed them and layed them in the sun to dry..

They come out neat and clean.....and ready to use again................

BANANA CRUMB MUFFINS...............
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 bananas, mashed
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease 10 muffin cups, or line with muffin papers.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together 1 1/2 cups flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. In another bowl, beat together bananas, sugar, egg and melted butter. Stir the banana mixture into the flour mixture just until moistened. Spoon batter into prepared muffin cups.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, 2 tablespoons flour and cinnamon. Cut in 1 tablespoon butter until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. Sprinkle topping over muffins.
  4. Bake in preheated oven for 18 to 20 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into center of a muffin comes out clean.
