Now that Spring has officially arrived;( its still abit cold here); I look to outdoors and its use.

We used to live in an older home which had an old fashioned front porch. My husband hung a large porch swing there. I put out large pots of pink geraniums ( my moms favorite) and pretty pillows filled the swing. Our family had so much fun on that swing. We would go out after supper and swing and talk and have lemonade and laugh and even catch firefly's in the yard at night.

Many good memories came from that swing on the front porch.

I also remember visiting my friend and sitting on her front porch swing and just swinging and drinking pink lemonade while she comforted me after my sweet sister Kay had gone to heaven.

Swings just bring back simpler times where life slows down and you just take in the goodness of the moment.

My sister Barbara has a beautiful back screened in porch that faces their woods and pool.

We all love to go out there when we visit and enjoy the many bird feeders she has set out in her yard. We go out early in the morning and enjoy a hot cup of coffee and the early morning dew.

We have lunches or suppers out on the porch and enjoy the beautiful woods in the Fall or the pretty flowers in the Spring.

Porches can have a definite effect on our lives. But , what if you don't have a front or back porch but you want a little private spot to call your own.

Here are a few ideas for you to make that "special spot" this Spring:

1. Choose a corner of your yard to put a couple of chairs and a small table.


2. Use a large pot of flowers and a chair to make a simple space for you on a small patio.


3. Purchase a "swing" or find one at a yard sale and paint it white and don with vintage pillows.


4. Keep things on hand like lemonade; picnic items to enjoy lunch outside


5. Decorate your patio in comfort. Use greenery; flowers; hanging baskets; bird feeders


6. Hang a hummingbird feeder in a small tree and enjoy watching these little birds


7. If its too hot outside or allergies keep you in make a place inside that you can look outside.
